7th
Heaven
Ten years ago in 1997,
Bob Dowma and Jim Foy of the Happiness
Emporium figured they didn't have enough to
do so they got together with two beautiful
ladies from Bob's church and formed a mixed
quartet and named it "7th Heaven". Besides
Bob singing bari and Jim singing bass, the
quartet is made up of Jeanie Spong singing
lead, and Lynn Quam on tenor.
The members of 7th
Heaven formed primarily to sing at their
respective church's summer services. But
they had so much fun, they joined the MHBQA
(Mixed Harmony Barbershop Quartet
Association) and their first year placed
second at the MHBQA contest in Aspen, CO.
The following year they were the featured
quartet at the Good News! Gospel Sing at
the Anaheim, CA. BHS convention.
Jeanie Spong is a
member of SAI City of Lakes Chapter and Lynn
Quam is unaffiliated but they, along with
Bob Dowma sing together in their church
choir.
7th Heaven performs at
many church functions, class reunions, and
social events around the Twin Cities of
Minnesota. Their program includes songs of
the '40s, comedy, and gospel numbers.

Buckeye Blend
buckeyeblend@aol.com
John Everett (T), Dave
Kindinger (L/Bs), Lionell Lyle (Br), John
Dudrow (Bs/L)
The quartet has been
performing for 17 years (nine with current
configuration). This quartet specializes in
tailgate songs and shows about football and
other athletics at the Ohio State
University. Using clever and humorous OSU
parodies, this quartet has entertained
Buckeye coaches, presidents and Buckeye fans
in general, at tailgate shows and social
events all over Ohio and in one foreign
country. [A short distance up north]. The
Quartet’s motto is that “humor cures all
woes and enhances the celebration of
victory”. You will surely enjoy a somewhat
different and very entertaining approach to
a very serious subject at this great
University. Go Bucks! Dave also sang lead
with Joker’s Wild, 1996 International
quartet Champions.
They have TWO
Recordings:
"Tailgatin' With the Blend" (released in
2002 with over 3,000 copies sold)
"Buckeye Ooo Mow Mow!" (released October
2007) To order and find more information visit:

Continental Connection
The
Western Continentals are still around
but have
made some changes recently. Ted Bradshaw
(lead) and
Paul Graham (bari) are the only active
singers from the
original WC of 1968 gold. So, according
to the Society rule (ala Riptide), they
must change their name if they wish to
register and compete. They have decided
to call themselves the Continental
Connection. The “new” foursome is still
working and appeared on shows.
The new guys of the Continentals are
Gordon
“MONGO” Bergthold (Bs) and Steve Schneck
(T).

Good News! Quartet
The
Good News! was originally formed in 1986
by Mo Rector (Mark IV - 1969), and
included Joe Mazzone (Regents - 1974),
Dale Deiser (Mark IV - 1969), and Jerry
Fairchild (Sidewinders - 1964). Their
ministry was to arrange and sing
Christian hymns and gospel songs in the
Barbershop style, and produce learning
tapes and song folios for other groups.
They also began the Good News! Gospel
Sing at the annual Barbershop Harmony
Convention.
Jim Foy
replaced Mo Rector in 1991 and the
Happiness Emporium (1975) took over the
ministry in 1999.
As the
Good News! Gospel Quartet, the foursome
travels the country singing gospel shows
and church services, as well as hosting
the annual Good News! Gospel Sing. They
continue to produce learning CDs and
song folios of the arrangements as well
as listening CDs. Their latest CD is a
blend of great Barbershop accompanied by
a wonderful Southern Gospel style band.
Several of the songs on this CD, titled
“Golden Gospel”, are written by Gospel
Music Hall of Fame member, Mosie Lister.

John Sherburn
As many
know John (tenor 1985 New
Tradition) has been singing away
from the barbershop quartet style of
music for a while and dabbled in
rock-n-roll.
He was
active with The Diamonds for
three years on the road (famous for Why
Do Fools Fall In Love, The Stroll,
Silhouettes and Little Darlin').
Most
recently John has been actively singing
jazz in several Seattle jazz clubs. The
reaction was so positive he decided to
record and has just released his own
solo project.
It’s
entitled “Time After Time” and
features John’s smooth voice on ten
timeless jazz songs.

The Perfect Gentlemen
Phil
Gold (T), Dan Jordan (L), Tim Reeder
(Br) and Jim Campbell (Bs)
The
Perfect Gentlemen provide the perfect
blend of harmony and humor harkening
back to the days of Vaudeville.
Preserving America’s great vocal sounds
from a time when music was music, The
Perfect Gentlemen recreate the close
harmonies of such legendary groups as
The Ink Spots and the Pied Pipers, while
including the era’s great comic songs
made famous by the likes of Louis Jordan
and The Hoosier Hotshots.
A
typical performance by The Perfect
Gentlemen includes marvelous melodious
music mingled with masterful mirth,
mischief, and merry-making. The group’s
versatility allows for effortless shifts
between vocal styles with an air of
ease, whether singing a cappella or
accompanied by guitar or ukulele. Their
signature piece, Salute to the 20th
Century, is a humorous take on the
de-evolution of music over the last
century, illustrated by singing the same
song in the style of Barbershop,
Dixieland, Blues, Big Band, Doo-Wop,
Bluegrass, Disco, Techno Punk, and Rap,
complete with visuals that delights
audiences of all ages time and time
again. Dan Jordan won the gold medal in
1985 with The New Tradition.
They have FOUR recordings
