AIC Remembers Harlan Wilson

Harlan Wilson lived a life steeped in harmony—onstage, at home, and in every corner of the barbershop world. He passed away on July 31, 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of music, mentorship, and deep devotion to the craft he loved.
A U.S. Navy veteran and proud Michigan State Spartan, Harlan rose to international fame in 1961 as the baritone of The Suntones, winning barbershop’s highest honor. Decades later, he would beam with pride as his son Todd (Acoustix – 1990) followed in his footsteps—making them the first father/son International Quartet Champions in BHS history.
Harlan’s musical influence went far beyond the quartet stage. As director of the Coastmen Chorus, he led them to a Bronze Medal, six Florida State Championships, and 10 international appearances. He also founded and directed numerous choruses and ensembles, coached hundreds of singers, and taught at Harmony College for many years.
Harlan’s commitment to excellence—and to people—never faded. From coaching in Florida to co-founding the Nashville Singers, he poured his heart into barbershop education, performance, and community at every stage of life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his children Todd and Wendy; his grandchildren Savannah, Taylor, and Travis; and his extended family.
Ring a Suntones tune today. He’d love that.
